Le CFP assure la maintenance et l’organisation de la Salle de Nationalité Française de Pitt depuis 2019. C’est avec beaucoup de fierté que le CFP fait donc partie du prestigieux “Pitt Nationality Rooms Program”. Le CFP est donc en charge de gerer la salle en organisant des animations et des collectes des fonds pour la bourse d’étude qui s’y rattache. En 2023 la salle française a fêté ses 80 ans! Dans ce cadre, la conférence sur Marie Curie a eu un grand succès avec 45 personnes dans le public. Outre le prestige de faire partie de ce programme qui existe depuis 1926**, nous avons aussi l’avantage d’avoir accès à la salle française et à d’autres pour nos événements. Nous décorons chaque année la salle pour les fêtes de fin d’année et nous participons activement à la Holidays Open House qui attire des centaines de visiteurs Le comité: Roberta Hatcher (présidente), Hamid Alawadhi (Vice-Président), William Harman (secrétaire) Brigitte Dougherty (trésorière) ainsi que Bénédicte Barlat, Jean-Dominique Le Garrec, Youssef Kadri, Elisa & Denis Vettier et Michelle Gau; tous membres du CFP font partie du comité de la salle française. The Nationality Room Program was founded at the request of Pitt Chancellor John Bowman in 1926 in order to involve the community in constructing the Cathedral of Learning and to provide the spiritual and symbolic foundation of the Cathedral that what would make the inside of the building as inspiring and impressive as the outside. Under Mitchell’s direction, invitations were extended to the nationality communities that made up the Pittsburgh area. https://www.nationalityrooms.pitt.edu/about/history The French Nationality Room however was only inaugurated in 1943. The French community was not large enough to help. The chancellor contacted the French government itself, with not much hope, considering the conflict that was raging then in France. Surprisingly enough, the French government accepted the challenge and funded the room! The style chosen was French Empire style.(pic below) The French Cultural Center is now in charge of managing the French Nationality room and the scholarship attached to it.
